Jay Pandolfo - Head Coach

Jay Pandolfo ('96) returned to Boston University in July 2021 as the men's ice hockey program's associate head coach after a successful playing and coaching career in the NHL.

Pandolfo most recently completed his fifth season as an assistant coach with the Boston Bruins in 2020-21 and helped them reach the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the fourth straight year. The Burlington, Massachusetts, native joined the Bruins' management team following a 15-year playing career, first as a player development coach in the 2014-15 season and in 2015-16 as the team's director of player development, during which time he worked with the team's drafted prospects throughout their system.

Drafted by the New Jersey Devils as the 32nd overall pick in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Pandolfo played 899 NHL games with New Jersey, the New York Islanders and Boston and had career NHL totals of 100 goals, 126 assists and 226 points. He won two Stanley Cup championships with the Devils in 2000 and 2003 and formally retired as a player in January 2014 after playing his last season with Boston in 2012-13.

Pandolfo was a standout for the Terriers during his four-year collegiate career, totaling 169 points (79g, 90a). He was a 1996 Hobey Baker Award finalist as a senior after recording 67 points (38g, 29a) and was an instrumental part of the Terriers' 1995 national championship while helping lead the Terriers to four straight Frozen Fours, two Beanpot titles and two Hockey East championships.

Jay Pandolfo - Associate Head Coach

Joe Pereira ('11), a member of the Terriers' 2009 national championship team, returned to BU in May 2022 as associate head coach.

Pereira joins the BU coaching staff after spending the past nine seasons at UConn, including the last four seasons as associate head coach. While at UConn, Pereira played a significant role in the Huskies’ recruiting efforts and was instrumental in helping UConn reach its first-ever Hockey East title game in 2022. Pereira coached the program’s first two All-Americans, Jonny Evans (2021) and Ryan Tverberg (2022), and 29 Huskies have signed pro contracts during Pereira’s tenure at UConn, including a program-record nine players from the 2021-22 squad.

A native of West Haven, Connecticut, Pereira began his coaching career with the club hockey program at Sacred Heart during the 2012-13 season, leading the Pioneers to their first-ever Northeast Collegiate Hockey League championship. Pereira also served as director of scouting for Madison Avenue Sports and Entertainment.

Pereira was a member of the Terriers’ 2009 squad that claimed the program’s fifth national title, in addition to that year’s Beanpot and Hockey East regular-season and tournament trophies. He led the team in goals as a senior and finished his collegiate career with 27 goals and 34 assists for 61 points in 139 games.By the conclusion of his playing career at BU, Pereira was a two-time recipient of the team’s Bennett McInnis Memorial Award for Spirit and was also selected as the Friends/Albert Sidd Unsung Hero as a senior captain. Additionally, Pereria earned Hockey East All-Academic honors in 2009 and received the Regina Eilberg Scholarship, which is presented to the player who combines the highest standards of Terrier athletics and academic performance. Pereira graduated in 2011 with a degree in business management.

Doug Friedman Joe Pereira ('11), a member of the Terriers' 2009 national championship team, returned to BU in May 2022 as associate head coach.

Kim Brandvold - Associate Head Coach

Kim Brandvold joined the Boston University men's ice hockey staff as an assistant coach in June 2022.

Brandvold comes to BU after spending the past seven seasons as a skating and skills coach with the Boston Bruins. While with the Bruins, Brandvold was integral in the development of the organization's young talent, including former Terriers Matt Grzelcyk and Charlie McAvoy.

He helped the Bruins advance to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in six straight seasons, including a trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. Brandvold also worked with players at the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Providence.. In addition to his duties with the Bruins, Brandvold was head coach of the boys hockey team at Central Catholic High School from 2016-2018.

A native of Oslo, Norway, Brandvold played collegiately at UMass Lowell from 2002-06, skating in 86 games for the River Hawks. He also represented his country at the U18 and U20 levels. Brandvold graduated from UMass Lowell in 2006 with a degree in psychology
